Regional food markets and restaurants have been dependent upon faraway farms to put salads on the menu for much of the year. Growing urban populations, insufficient arable land, dwindling natural resources & climate change require new solutions. Technology for the food industry will change the world for a massive growing world population.
The speaker for this event is:
John Battle - A political economist by training, He completed his MA at the Institute for Soviet and East European Studies, Carleton University, in Ottawa, Canada. From 1984 to 1988, He was a President’s Fellow at Columbia University’s Harriman Institute for Advanced Study of the Soviet Union. He left Columbia in 1988 to pursue business interests first in the Soviet Union and then, after its collapse, in Estonia. During 10 years in Estonia, his partners and he established 12 successful companies in such diverse spheres as business infrastructure construction, real estate, telecommunications, hospitality and travel.
He is President and co-founder of YLG Partners, a group of investor/partners who founded, built and are successfully operating Your Local Greens, an industrial size, state of the art, indoor hydroponic farm in Burlington, North Carolina. He is also the CEO and co-founder of Bizroa, Inc., an early stage analytics company working to build a next generation matching platform.
